Sometimes people lose the ability to see the things happening in front of their eyes even when they have good vision. That's because their heart is made of only dirt and brick. Unfortunately, even powerful countries around the world like Canada refuse to see the violation of human rights occuring to refugees in Bangkok.
My brother, Harikovind Vettivel who was accepted as a refugee by UNHCR in Bangkok filed for permanent residence status in Canada where all his siblings and parent is currently living. Unfortunately the Canadian embassy decided to close his file since they were not able to conduct an interview with him before they could make a decision. Some of his siblings living in Canada haven't even seen my brother for over 20 years.
If powerful countries like Canada could do only this much and would just prefer to sit around quietly without taking any initiative, it is hard to see any difference between the Thailand government and the Canadian Government.
Canada must show its support to UNHCR like other countries such as Norway, Denmark, Holland etc to end the misery that these Sri Lankans and other people are going through.
Canada! please open your eyes!!
I hope the painful feelings of these refugees will touch your small heart.
Please help our family to be reunited with our brother in Canada.
